I'm not a people-person or a meeting-organizer, so I'm NOT volunteering to arrange a get-together in Albuquerque (where is Lisa Lee when we need her?), but I'm posting this message on the DHIG listserve to see if there is any reason to even try to set-up a group-meeting. If you are planning on attending the AAA meeting in 2½ weeks, consider responding to this post with a simple "I'll be in Albuquerque" so we have a general idea of how many histologists will be at the meeting.
Those of you who are as old as I am may remember that when the DHIG was first created, Lisa used to organize an impromptu luncheon somewhere near the convention center, and that the turn-out, sharing of ideas, and meeting new & old friends was impressive. I wasn't at the meeting in Toronto two years ago. Last year, in Portland, although I did get to see some old friends and make some new friends, there wasn't a gathering of the DHIG and I had the sense that the AAA meeting might no longer be an annual destination for histologists.
If you're going to be at this year's AAA meeting, make a noise on this listserve so we can think about what might be done to keep/renew the sense of community. If you are a histologist who has given-up on AAA (but forget to delete your name from the DHIG listserve), I would be very interested in where histologists are now hanging-out ... although it probably would be better to send this as a personal email rather than posting it on the listserve.
Hope to see some of you in Albuquerque!
