Eduard I. Dedkov, M.D., Ph.D., FAHA is an Associate Professor in the Department of Biomedical Sciences at Cooper Medical School of Rowan University (Camden, NJ).
Dr. Dedkov received his M.D. (1993) and Ph.D. (1996) degrees from Orenburg State Medical Academy (Russian Federation). He has been trained as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in cell and developmental biology at University of Michigan Medical School, Ann Arbor (1996-2003), with an emphasis on regenerative potential of skeletal muscle stem cells, and then conducted his research in the area of cardiovascular development and aging-related diseases as an Assistant Research Scientist at University of Iowa Carver College of Medicine, Iowa City (2003-2006). In 2006, he joined the faculty at NYIT College of Osteopathic Medicine (Old Westbury, NY) as an Assistant Professor and then, in 2016, he has become a faculty member at Cooper Medical School of Rowan University (Camden, NJ) in a rank of an Associate Professor. As an academic educator, he lecture first and second-year medical students in a system-based curriculum, with emphasis on histology, physiology and cell biology, and served as a small group facilitator in a problem (clinical case) based learning curriculum.
Dr. Dedkov’s laboratory has focused on three areas of cardiovascular research: 1) the structural and functional basis of sex-related differences in progression of myocardial infarction-induced heart failure, 2) the regulatory mechanisms of anti-fibrotic effect of ivabradine-induced heart rate reduction in post-myocardial infarcted heart and 3) the modulatory role of cardiac neuropeptides in development of coronary vascular system.
During his academic career, Dr. Dedkov has published 34 peer-reviewed research articles, one book chapter and numerous research meeting abstracts. He has served as a research grant peer reviewer for the American Heart Association (2008-2013) and as a member of annual meeting program coordinating committee for the American Association of Anatomists (2007-2015). In 2017, he has been elected as Fellow of the American Heart Association (FAHA). Dr. Dedkov organized & chaired 7 oral scientific sessions at the Experimental Biology conferences (2008; 2009; 2010; 2011; 2014 and 2017).
